They've changed owners and redone the place. You'd think that's a good thing but the place is very plain looking now and they got rid of the pour-over bar which was what I always came here for and it was what really set them apart from any other coffee joint. The people behind the counter don't seem to know what they're doing either. They still use Metropolis brand coffee, though, so that's good. I didn't see any single origins for sale though. I had a cappuccino and it was good. I hope they figure out what they're doing here soon before they go under because I like supporting local businesses but if you can't be bothered to do the research and figure out proper marketing, service, your product, and your customers then you just aren't going to last. Today was supposed to be their grand reopening and their owner isn't even here. Their Facebook page is using stock photos with the watermark still in it and calling themselves "two mugs" but keeping the same coffee planet signs. Which is it? How hard is it to take pictures of coffee and hire a few people who know how to make coffee in a pour-over? They shut down their drive-thru which is ridiculous considering they aren't doing the slow brew coffee anymore. I really wish they'd get their $#!7 together because this place is so conveniently located for me. Time will tell.

I wish I didn't have to downgrade from 5 stars to 1 but ever since they switched ownership, everything has changed. 1. The staff are friendly but service was slow and I was the only person there. When I ordered my drink, the girl at the register had to ask me twice what I wanted and which size I asked for. 2. The drink I ordered (peanut butter mocha) tasted nothing like it used to. I could barely taste any peanut butter or chocolate in my mocha. 3. The hours on their site still say they open at 6am Monday through Friday. I left my house early today thinking I'd stop by and grab coffee (and this is a big deal because I don't wake up early for anything...not even work haha). When I get there... whadaya know? They weren't open! This was at 6:30am. As you can imagine, I was not a happy camper. Deprive me of sleep and coffee? Bad idea. I wanted to give Coffee Planet the benefit of the doubt which is why I came back to try a different drink but when I saw they weren't even open when they were supposed to be....well that was it for me. I wish Coffee Planet the best and hope they figure out the little details before they lose any more customers.

I like that they are family owned and they really seemed committed to the coffee and tea experience. My goodness, do they have an array of various lattes and the like. I'm pretty boring and order the usual skim latte. It didn't blow me away but I was impressed with the barrista's precision and care in making our drinks. I also had a chocolate croissant which was just OK. Service was efficient but not particularly friendly even though they weren't terribly busy. I need to give this place another try and expand my coffee palate.

Coffee Planet over Starbucks any day, anytime. The best part besides discovering this place is that it's on my direct route from work to school and it's truly a great pick me upper, especially for classes that I dread such as finance or accounting ;-) I've been inside a couple of times and it's very cozy, incredibly friendly, and has the perfect coffee house vibe, which is a rarity in the suburbs. There's plenty of seating and it's a great place to kick back with a book or study for exams. I usually go through their drive-thru, which is super convenient and there are never any lines. They also have the cutest art on the outside wall of the drive-thru. As for the coffee, I've only had a couple types of drinks, including the Pumpkin Spice Latte and their Vanilla latte, which honestly is done to perfection. They also stick on the cutest stickers to the cup so that the drink doesn't spill out - i've had a mustache and a cow. Love the small details. Lastly, the customer service is excellent - I've had the same barista ask me to try the latte to make sure I like it before driving off. It's definitely a great coffeeshop to try and nothing beats supporting small and local businesses!

So yeah.....coffee planet no hay funciona. Tried to use my coveted check in offer for a dollar off my drink today...and was told "oh that's for Coffee Planet." wTF? I swear I walked into Coffee Planet. And I swear I haven't had that much to drink today. It's only 2000pm. Am I on Prank'd? Where's Ashton at? I suddenly felt as if I was on some 3rd dimension of an alternate universe on Planet Earth 347, where there used to be a Coffee Planet, is now a same shaped cafe with coffee drinks, slightly altered seating arrangements and chalkboards inside with hastily erased Coffee Planet logos replaced by The Mug. So I guess this review is really meant for The Mug. Will transfer review accordingly once a new business listing is up. In my initial stage of shock I took a huge swig off my latte`. Burned my fucking tongue. Thanks a lot, Mug. Now I have no idea how my drink is.
(2)John M.
I am really rooting for this place to do well (now called "The Mug"). However, since the remodel and change of ownership (please its nothing personal) just can see that the quality of drinks has gone done. The brewed coffee and espresso is still very good and they've added some good smoothies and italian soda's. However, many things have taken a step back. They don't really know how to make ice coffee, they dilute it with water and now it tastes no better than DD. They've eliminated the pour overs and popular/unique latte drinks. It also seems like there is less motivation on part of the staff to do well. If there is not a customer they are just their texting. Sending a couple texts isn't wrong but when you have your face in your phone the whole time it shows that you don't care.
(2)Emily P.
Yet another new owner. Seems to be going for a very generic look and style. The coffee is still fine but the mural and local art are gone and it looks like the will not be offering drive thru.
(3)Devin W.
I was here once before new ownership, after I saw that one of the partners posted anti-gay images on Facebook I'll not be coming back. I don't need any bigotry with my coffee.

Family owned coffee shops just warm my little heart. It's a personal hobby of mine to support all the local caffeine fueling stations in the 'burbs and I am so happy I came to Coffee Planet! They have a variety of seating which is great -- high tops, low tops, booths, and comfy chairs. This is ideal when you're like me and spend 4+ hours hanging out there with your laptop....it's good to switch it up so your bum doesn't fall asleep y'all. I went with a sugar free vanilla latte and boy did it get the job done. Super tasty and the perfect pick me up. Just like Andrea R., I too highly enjoy SB's skinny vanilla latte. Coffee Planet's vanilla latte totally compared and may have even been better! I love that they have a drive thru...huge selling point. I got a little hungry after being there for a few hours, so I enjoyed a gluten free fruit/nut bar they had. I fought every urge not to go with a brownie which I've heard rave reviews about - just trying to watch my eating! Next time though... next time. It looked delish and is gluten free! I'm not positive, but I believe it was either the owner or a manager who helped me with my purchase. Regardless, he was super nice and even thanked me for supporting their local family owned business!

This place loves their coffee! And so do I! You can tell from how passionate the staff explains their coffee and the whole brewing process. This place has a nice small business vibe and I love it. They have these cool looking sciencey experiment lookin' beakers with long tubes that drip out the coffee veeeeery slowly. There's a brew there that literally takes 24-hours to brew! You can check out the setup here: coffeeplanetinc.com/coff ... but its almost like a science experiment ending in coffee deliciousness. I ended up having the peanut butter latte and it was awesome. As of the time of this writing, Yelp check-ins give you a $1 off! BATHROOM REVIEW: Bathroom is a single stall setup and consists of a toilet and sink. Super clean and modern tiling and decor. Sit or squat? Sit!

Horchata Latte, Maple Bacon Mocha Latte, Matcha Latte, Peanut Butter Mocha Latte, Coconut Almond Mocha Latte, White Lavender Mocha Latte, Girl Scout Cookie Latte... I don't know about you all, but they had me by the balls at 'Horchata.' GIMME.THAT.ISH. Yeah, you could say I like them a latte. I was really impressed with this place and know I'll be a regular with all the delectable drinks and cool events they have here. Everything from poetry slams to German language tutoring to game nights and more! Best part is, it's just across the parking lot from my favorite bar (Bigby's Pour House) so I can happily swing by for some beans before getting my brew on. For an independant coffee shop, the place is pretty huge with plenty of seating and no shortage of beverage options for you and everyone you know. They even have a drive-thru for lazy, hurried people like myself. My only neg is that on my first visit some of staff was running a little slow. I don't mean that my stuff took a lone time, I just mean that maybe there were a few hangovers in the house. I'm excited to come back and order at least two beverages for myself because it's just too hard to make a decision when both matcha and horchata are in the mix.

Coffee Planet's the latest local coffeehouse that I've discovered. I'd heard good things about it from my fellow Yelpers, but had yet to visit. Side note: I'd actually patronized the big box coffeehouse who shall not be named, which is located super close to this one. I had no idea that Coffee Planet was *that* close. I visited on a weekend afternoon after doing some grocery shopping at Mitsuwa, which is close to CP. I mentioned to the owner that it was our first time. He was extremely friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He explained the different types of pour overs (5 total) and their latte choices for those who prefer sweeter drinks. He also pointed out their tea and caffeine free options. As for the lattes, their choices include Peanut Butter Mocha, Girl Scout Cookie, Maple Bacon and White Lavender Mocha (WLM). I had difficulty choosing one, so I asked the owner what he'd recommend over the PB Mocha and the Girl Scout Cookie one. He went a different direction entirely and suggested I get the WLM. I went ahead and ordered it, figuring he'd know what's up... I mean, he's far better versed in coffee than little old me. The latte blew me away and had me craving it the week after I drank it. In fact, my fiancé and I went back the following weekend so I could have it again. In all honestly, words really can't do justice to the awesomeness that is the WLM. It's sweet, but not overly so. The espresso taste comes through nice and strong. The lavender gives the latte a slightly peppery and flowery taste. My fiancé ordered a shot of espresso both times and had no complaints. They serve it proper - in a yellow demitasse cup. All their coffees are roasted by Chicago based Metropolis Coffee. The espresso drinks are made with Metropolis' Redline Espresso. Price wise, Coffee Planet is the least expensive that I've found out of the local coffeehouses that I've sampled around the area. My twelve ounce drink *with* the soymilk and my fiancé's espresso cost under $7, which is awesome and definitely comparable with the chain who shall not be named. CP also has a solid selection of pastries and other food options if you're looking for something to nosh on while you sip your beverage. You can take a seat at a high table top by the window, on a sofa, at standard tables or in a single seat next to the fireplace. If you're in a rush, they have a drive thru. The mural painted on the wall of the drive through looks super cool too. CP has a rewards program through LoyalTree, which can be downloaded through the Apple Store or Google Play. You earn a free drink for signing up for the rewards program. You scan an image on the bottom of your receipt to earn your points. You can earn things like a free bakery item, a free medium latte, $3 off your purchase, a free mug, a free travel mug and a $20 gift card once you've accumulated a certain amount of points. The only downside is that CP is located 30 minutes away from my house. Despite that all, I know that I'll be back to sample more of their amazing beverages. The quality of drinks and top-notch customer service makes the drink more than worth it. Overall, I highly recommend that you give CP a try if you're in the area!

With a love for coffee and experience working at Caribou Coffee for a little while I started out 2014 with the mission to visit all of the coffee shops in my area. After visiting a few, I thought why not write reviews and share my thoughts on each of them. So here we are... without any further ado let's dive right in to my unbiased review of Coffee Planet Prior to writing the main part of this review I feel its important to say this: After going to Coffee Planet, I have a new standard for coffee shops. It was so good, I want to go back to all of my other coffee shop reviews and change them to 4 stars instead of 5. Coffee Planet is the best coffee shop I have been to thus far! Location and Ambiance: Its located in the same location as a Caribou Coffee before it closed. The cool thing about Coffee Planets location is the drive through. I have yet to see a local coffee shop accomplish this. In addition to this the ambiance is unreal! The owner did a great job making it comfortable and unique. Coffee: So many different kinds of coffee! They have pour overs, lattes, maple bacon lattes, and dozens of other coffee creations. Plus the staff has a deep knowledge of the different drip and pour overs they have. Food: This is the only area where they are slightly lacking, but honestly the coffee is just too good not to make up for the slight food issue. The problem I had was the pastries (brought in from another local bakery) were dry and not very flavorful. Staff: The staff was amazing! To keep it short, it is owned by a father and son. I met the father, and he impressed up with his kindness and knowledge of their product. Overall, I cant explain how fantastic our experience was. In summary, it was a 30 minutes drive and I plan to make it again! Thanks, Connor Brady

I really like Coffee Planet! I have to be honest, I avoided Coffee Planet because of the name. I thought it was some chain coffee spot and just was not interested. Come to find out, it's an amazing family owned spot! Their drive thru is fabulous! So many corner store type coffee shops don't have drive thrus making it slightly less convenient. The drive thru is one of the many things that makes Coffee Planet one of the best spots around! If you decide to hang out inside, it's a relaxed environment with a variety of tables. I'm not a fan of the high tops but it's very mixed in table styles. Huge bonus is they have a bunch of games you can choose from while there! Their brownie is huge and delicious for $2. I think that's nearly half the price of Starbucks! I brought one into work, shared it with a coworker and we agreed the frosting on it was to die for. Uber delectable! Prices on their coffees & hot cocoas & teas are not bad at all. Comparable to other big name places. *Bring your own mug and save a quarter! Planet friendly and good for your wallet. *Buy 10 drinks and get 1 free with their frequent buyer card! *Buy a $20 gift card and get a free drink! *Check in on Yelp & save $1 on your purchase. Offers change but that's the current deal. So many money saving things at Coffee Planet, it begs the question - Why not!?

How did I not know about this earlier?? (Ok my sister did tell me about this place before but I tend to space out when she talks sometimes) I've been searching for a specialty coffee shop in the burbs and finally there is one! I am tired of the lack of choices out in the north/northwest suburbs. Starbucks sucks and Caribou isn't much better. So I decided to stop by this place and see what they had to offer. I got myself a White Lavendar Mocha and my sister a peanut butter mocha. I can't wait to go back and try another drink!

I work out near CP and have visited in the past. The word is the are under new management. I had the worst service, the baristas were talking poorly about their job right in front of the line (and by line, i mean 2 people). I support small , local buisnesses I will never go back here. My latte was horrible, it was almost obvious the girl had no idea what to do, and no one would help her when she asked. I couldn't drink it and ordered a regular coffee, which was COLD. Offered to "nuke" it for me? Are you serious? I wanted to complain to the manager..which was no where to be found. They use to use Metropolis, I do not know what they use now, but i'm sure that has changed , nothing tastes the same. What happened here?? boo.
(1)Jason H.
Apparently this place is under new management, which is very noticeable! I don't know who bought this place, but it's a disgrace to the former owners. I don't think the employees know much about coffee. I bought an iced coffee today and ended up throwing it out, it was so bad. I saw them make it by pouring a little coffee in and filling the rest of the cup with water?! Needless to say it was so watered down, it didn't even taste like coffee. I didn't order an Americano, just a straight up coffee. Correct me if I am wrong, but that's not how you make iced coffee. I also had to ask for half and half and was told they don't leave it out because they "mostly make lattes". Whatever... I think they're either being cheap.. or they are just clueless, but potentially both. I really loved this place when the previous owners had it, and I am sad that it's turned into crap. Hopefully it turns around, because I love supporting independent coffeehouses and drinking good coffee. Does anybody know if the family who owned this place opened a new coffeehouse? If they have not and they are reading this.. please do!!! :)
(1)Pachelbel C.
The new management promised that nothing would change, but they changed a lot. I used to like this place a lot, but I was disappointed today.... I got two orders of their special coffees with syrup and without it, and they messed it up. When we realized they screwed up our orders, we were already driving on Golf Rd so we kept driving because we didn't feel like waiting another 10 minutes at their drive-thru window for two cups of coffee. One of the selling points with the original/previous owner was using less syrup than national chain shops so that the true flavor of coffee was not overpowered by sweetness. Now under new management, their special coffees are sweeter than ever, sweeter than Starbucks, which gave me headache and I couldn't finish drinking. On top of that, they are using sleeves of other coffee shop (Cafe Rottibun, in Naperville per yelp) and allergy medicine, Claritin. Really?? Buying coffee is a treat for me, and they are okay with giving customers with Claritin adds? It definitely made the coffee much less appetizing.... This is a disgrace on the original/previous owner. I want to support and choose small and local businesses over national chain coffee shops, so PLEASE IMPROVE, and PLEASE FIND VALUES in little things that you offer. I go to your shop not because I want a cup of coffee. If I just want a cup of coffee, I will make my own at home with organic beans using a french press. I go to your shop because I want to have a quality time while enjoying flavorful cup of coffee. The new Management, I hope you understand the difference between these two.
(1)A P.
New management, it doesn't even taste the same as before, did you change the beans?. The coffee here is now bad, and overpriced for bad coffee. I don't even want it for free. The pastries there are usually not fresh, it would be nice if they would bake something original. Also, It took me 20 minutes to get my Latte because you forgot about me. Although the place still looks pretty cool, make sure what you offer is good and fresh. Alternatives: I found a place that offers metropolitan coffee, it's inside the Des Plaines train station and it is good. Bad news is, it's not a place to sit down and just hang out and it's not open after 5pm or weekends. Still if you'r a commuter, this is a bonus.
(1)Jay R.
I'd consider myself rather forgiving when it comes to new businesses and management. Since the new ownership, I've come back multiple times, and the service and selection could only be described as inconsistent at best. I've had some great days and some terrible days. I usually get tea and was disappointed to see they no longer steep tea leaves in a pot, but now use tea bags instead. I can get that anywhere. Several weeks ago I came by only to notice the windows had been covered and a small sign stating that they're undergoing some renovations from late May to early June. I'm excited to see whats in store, but it's mid June at the time of this writing and multiple people have posted on their FB page asking for some sort of update. They finally posted an update on FB after a disgruntled customer apparently provoked a somewhat angry and reactionary response from Coffee Planet. The Coffee Planet had built up a loyal following under the old management, and really tested that following under the new management. Undergoing renovations is no excuse to ignore your customers when they simply want to know how soon they can come back. Even if a customer is being rude, always put forth a professional face. I really want this rare, independent NW suburban coffee shop to succeed, but so far its been a quite a fail.
(1)Victoria H.
I nearly cried when Caribou shut down. Seriously, I did. Caribou and Biggby both had closed their doors, and left me with little options nearby. Well, it didn't take long for a rebound coffee joint to take over Caribou's old location. Coffee Planet has moved in, and is slowly, but surely coming into its own. They had a little rough start, but things are looking up! I'm all about supporting a independent coffee shop, or any business for that matter. With another huge name coffee brand only one lot over, I'd say they have some steep competition. Take your money over to Coffee Planet and give the little guys a chance to thrive! They serve Metropolis coffee, which is a Chicago based coffee company. Keeping it local. I've enjoyed all my lattes. They also provide almond milk and soy milk as an alternative. They are constantly trying to come up with different flavor combinations for their drinks. Right now they have a peanut butter mocha and an almond joy latte. In the near future, they will have a horchata flavored latte, which I'm keeping my eyes open for! Sounds delish. Prior to opening, we actually talked with the owner, and he mentioned some of the plans they had for Coffee Planet. One of those plans involved having Rammy's ( yelp.com/biz/rammys-sub-… ) subs available for purchase. That has yet to happen, but they do provide some pastries and bagels as of now. The owner and staff all seem passionate about their coffee and what they're doing. I see them working hard to turn their business into a success, whether that means the owner himself out on the street with a sign, offering coupons, frequent buyer punch cards, or trying to bring local artists (poetry, art, music) in for entertainment. I wish them the best and hope to bump this review up to 5 stars soon enough! May the force of the suburban coffee connoisseurs be with you.
(4)Jen H.
I am sad!. With new management brought changes that are unacceptable. Something has changed with the flavor. The coffee absolutely tastes different. Nearly every drink has been COLD (I did not order cold), I order exclusively Black Americano, seems simple enough espresso and hot water. Initially I was torn between continuing to support a Small business and patronizing a place with sub standard product. There is a just a "weird" vibe in there now. I really wanted it to succeed.

ABOLUTELYE 100% OUR NEW FAVORITE COFFEE PLACE IN CHICAGOLAND! EVERYONE should do stop by (or drive by, they have a drive-thru if you're in a rush!) and give this family owned place a chance! *Support local business!!* They serve amazing Metropolis Coffee with stellar technique, skill and knowledge! We have become fast regulars here, and come to know the owners & their son, Jim, quickly! Jim gave us a sweet coffee lesson for like 45 minutes one day on their Kyoto process (seriously ask about it, it's so cool!!) where it produces 3X the coffee power, and in the process it removes all the bitterness and is so freaking cool! They have sweet creations, and for the coffee n00b they draw little illustrations next to what each kind of coffee (mocha VS lattee VS affogato..etc) entails so you know what you're getting! (See my pictures!) Every creation they make for us has been delicious and perfectly hand crafted! I usually get a spin on a Mocha by adding pumpkin spice or other fun flavoring, while my husband is always trying a new pour over, but they are so good, it keeps us coming back again and again! They have a whole game shelf so you can challenge your friend to a game of chess, Risk , or a fun game of Apples to Apples! *see my photos for more games & interior shots* They support local artists and currently display their artwork for sale on the wall near where you first walk in! This is a high quality coffee shop, with a cozy, friendly feel, we absolutely love love love coming back here again and again! We love giving our business here while supporting our insensible coffee obsession ! Rock on, Coffee Planet, you guys are THE BEST!!!! An ABSOLUTE MUST if you are in the area!!! Pop on by, sit for awhile by the fire, sipping your favorite drink, or buzz through their speedy drive-thru if you're in a rush! If you're stuck going to S*bucks simply out of habit... just give this local business your hard earned dinero & keep it local, this place rocks... just rocks, rocks, ROCKS my socks!
(5)Ryan S.
Good non-coffees. I don't know about the coffee stuff as i don't do coffee, but the teas and stuff are pretty good. Great pastries. . ... the staff is friendly and warm. They have open mic nights on the third Saturday of every month.
(5)Tony H.
:::Picture Will Ferrell's SNL portrayal of Harry Caray::: "Hey Norm! What's your favorite planet?? Mine's the Coffee Planet! Can you imagine, a planet made of coffee? Hey! If you were a cup of coffee, would you drink yourself? I know I would. Especially at Coffee Planet. I'd be roasty, sweet and delicious, and possibly contain Horchata...I'd be REAL good." Aaaaand scene. Behind the scenes- or at least behind the counter- they've got all kinds of delicious treats and drinks. I wish I'd seen the $2 brownies sooner; I might've treated myself to a little pre-meeting snack. But as it was, the horchata latte was enough to get my nerves and creative juices flowing. It was sweet, slightly creamy, but lacking juuuust a little bit of cinnamon or nutmeg to really put it over the top. Still, it was a great drink. As others mentioned, there is a drive-thru. That's a huge plus for a locally owned place. Do yourself a favor. Take a ride in your ground cruiser, orbit the Coffee Planet, and fuel the rest of your day.
(4)Andrea R.
They have a drive thru, which I think should be mandatory for all Chicagoland coffee shops. The drive thru alone gets a star. I didn't actually use the drive thru because I had a day of meetings at Coffee Planet. Don't judge me, but I happen to like my sugar free skinny vanilla latte at Starbucks (a lot). I'm always wary of other sugar free skinny (or non fat if it's not SB) vanilla lattes elsewhere, but Coffee Planet makes a good one. It was actually so good that I'm surprised I didn't order another during my full day of meetings, but then again I had already had 2 cups of Starbucks coffee earlier. Not a caffeine addict? My pregnant colleague informed me they also make a delicious blueberry iced tea. And according to her their cookies are worth the calories as well. Perhaps next time.
(4)Alicia H.
First off, I am admittedly a Starbucks addict. Reading Andrea R.'s and Candace G's reviews put Coffee Planet on my radar. This morning, on the way home from my 15 mile run, I decided to check out CP instead of my usual 'bucks. The verdict? Pretty darn good. My husband and I both had specialty iced lattes. His was nutella-like, while I tried the almond joy variety. There was not quite enough ice in my husband's beverage, but otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed the lattes. The real test, however, will come when I try an americano. That is my daily drink, with no sugar syrups to compete with the espresso. I will report back! *One huge positive of Coffee Planet? They offer almond milk. This fact alone will bring me back.*
(4)Allison A.
Great little coffee shop, and boy do the employees know a thing or two about coffee. The person helping me explained pretty much everything about coffee there. Now, in an effort not be rude and the overwhelmed feeling that I got from all of this new information, I simply yelled out, 'I just really like iced coffee'. The employee smiled and broke me out an iced coffee. Now, he swore I could drink it black, which was out of my comfort zone. To be fair, I tried a sip and it was good. However, I'm not ready to give up my cream and suga, so I went to the side station to add some. Unfortunately, I don't live too close to here, so I don't get to frequent it that often. My husband works down the street and he's been able to stop more times than I. Lucky duck,
(4)Sarah E.
I'm not ashamed to say I'm a bit of a coffee snob... And this is the first place I've been to in the northwest suburbs that really fulfills my coffee desires! The owner is super friendly and knowledgable and they have so many choices in terms of beans and coffee making devices. To top it all off, they have a great layout for sitting, reading, chatting with a group of friends, etc. AND they have fast free wifi! Today I enjoyed a pour over coffee made from their Ethiopia Limu beans... The owner warned me of its unusual aftertaste (which probably would have turned off the average coffee drinker) but I took the dive and am glad I did! Bold flavor but very smooth, with a nice citrusy aftertaste.

Recently changed ownership. The first thing that caught my eye was walking up to the counter and I saw this huge hourglass that appeared to be making coffee. This contraption stood probably about 3-4' tall on the counter. Now that was cool. Go check it out and ask questions-I asked questions, but I am not the man with all the coffee answers. They have many different "specialty" drinks that are created by their baristas. I've tried the Cafe Insane-O. "If you don't want to sleep tonight this is for you" is what the warning I received before getting this was. 3 shots of espresso, 1 shot of cold brew from their Yama cold brew, cane sugar, and some half and half. It is surprising smooth for the amount of espresso in it. They have some local artists' work displayed throughout the interior and also host some live music and similar events occasionally. Stop in and check out the chalkboard for new events. If you seek the some of the better coffee in town to fuel you through the day; look no further, your search is over.
(3)Nicole W.
Oh, Coffee Planet - you are a welcome respite in a sea of Starbucks and Dunkins. A short poem for you... A local coffee shop awaits in Coffee Planet, I'm just so happy I won't smell like Starbucks all day, dammit. From pour over java to delicious blueberry iced tea, CP has tons of delicious items for you and me. So pop through the drive thru or walk on in, Coffee Planet is a total win.

My main purpose of visiting Coffee Planet was to try out their cold brew, but I also ended up getting a cup of coffee. The barista was friendly and I like being able to choose how the coffee is brewed (chemex, aeropress, or v60.) This is the first coffee shop I've been to that gives you that option. I rarely use an aeropress, so I chose that. It was smooth and flavorful, but still a little too much on the fruity side for me. The environment was comfy and relaxed. With their game nights and other events, Coffee Planet has a community feel about it.

Very welcoming place. I'm not usually from the area but coming from Chicago where there is almost a coffee shop every other block. I was very pleased with Coffee Planet. The owner and baristas had full knowledge of the coffee. and being a barista myself I was happy to know they could describe the coffee flavors vs telling me if it was strong or not. Thank you for being well informed. Their Smoothies were good, I loved the peach one, my friend got mango but it was a little too sweet for my liking. We did wait a little before getting them but I expect that from places like this because this isn't an average dunkin donut shop so don't expect just gunk coming from a machine being served as a "smoothie." Also did I mention free wifi...with unlimited use and plenty of comfy places to sit and do homework or whatever. Prices are average, I sure didn't spend an arm and a leg, I bought a few snacks and drinks while writing my term papers here. Plus their purchase punch card was a def incentive to keep buying more. Oh yeah and drive thru?? They def got it going on here. If I'm ever in the area again I know just the place to go to!

This is about as good as it gets for the suburban cafe, but still pales in comparison to the Chicago places. They offer Metropolis coffee company beans for all their coffees, which is always good. Coffee planet also offers all the different brewing methods ie pour over, chemex, drip brew, aeropress, espresso machine, etc. For the uninitiated this is a great starting point. The service is kinda spotty: the owner is always nice. But his son knows what he's doing when it comes to making beverages. The same can't be said about the rest, But in all the times I've been there I've only had one poorly made drink and they rectified immediately. So kudos to that! If you are a latte drinker, they offer only conventional milk, Which sucks , but they have a host of alternative milk if that suits you better. If you need a break from sbux this should be highest on you priority list.

Sorry Dunkin doughnuts and Starbucks. You've been replaced! Coffee is perfect!!! Next I'm going to try the pastries!
(5)Rebecca F.
Best coffee joint in the 'burbs! Such great service & options, you'll be happy you skipped Starbucks! Lavender white chocolate mocha & coconut almond mocha lattes are so tasty & chocolate chip cookies are buttery-good!
(5)Jenny V.
Very cozy and inviting! i love that they hold events like open mic night and game night, its a great way to meet new people and support a local business! I also love their speciality drinks! check this place out and support small business owners!
(4)Peter Y.
Not a coffee snob by any means, but Coffee Planet's delicious pour over coffee will make most coffee purists happy. The inside is spacious and bright, and makes for a perfect lazy Sunday as you sip on your coffee and flip through the pages of your textbook. Coffee Planet also hosts a lot of community events, such as musical acts and board game tournaments! The owner is also the friendliest person you will ever meet. While I was waiting for my coffee, chatting away with the staff, I really felt like a valued patron, as opposed to the source of someone's paycheck. Aside from their creative and unique offering of drinks, they also have a delicious selection of pastries to choose from. Combine all of this with a loyalty program and discounts via Yelp check-ins and you can really see why Coffee Planet was ranked the top coffee shop around the neighborhood.
(5)Liz T.
I love that this place is always busy. I like their unique add ons to a typical coffee place. The lavender mocha was delicious! The owner seems nice and is always there. I've only been here a few times (3-4) and there is almost always some characters in this place. One in particular has... very bad body odor and has been at this store every time I've been there and every time it is the same. Not the stores fault, but it always makes me feel a little uncomfortable. Another time I was here and a man with a parrot greeted me. You can't make this stuff up! Prices are fair and it's a good local spot. Support your local businesses and come here! On a first date, maybe not because you just never know what you're going to get!
(4)Gina W.
We are Die hard Starbucks customers, UNTIL NOW. This place is amazing. Not only are they kind, knowledgable but completely friendly and efficient. Perfect place if you want comfy and cozy! Their espresso is amazing, their blended drinks are way better than the frappucinos. Way better than Starbucks
(5)Dianne J.
Ordered cafe insano - love it! Finally a good coffee shop that it's not in the city. I have a feeling that I will be in this place often.
(5)Nic Z.
Friendly owner, super unique 24-hour drip coffee (delicious!), and good espresso. The interior is nicely designed and cozy. Drinks are expensive, but I imagine coffee snobs would (and do, since he's in business) find it worthy.
(4)Brian A.
First off, the owner is very kind and very knowledgable. He knows his coffee and it shows in the quality of his brew. Great coffee, great shop, great prices, great owner. Do yourself a favor and pay them a visit.
(5)Dan K.
Hallelujah for a real coffee shop in the suburbs! It's a rare treat to have Metropolis coffee available in pourovers, cold press, Chemex, and Aeropress at a coffee shop that's not in the city!
(5)E K.
Well, based on the other reviews, I guess I understand why the service took a nosedive. I used to drive over here because I loved the coffee, ( and I refuse to go to Starbucks) but I sat in the drive thru for a really long time today and the barista practically shoved my drink at me. Literally shut the window before I could even say a word. The coffee does not taste the same either. My little boy loved the drink stickers too, but those are gone as well. The previous owner used to run the window sometimes and he was so friendly. Guess I'll have to start searching for a new go-to spot.
(2)Angie L.
Went to get coffee and during open hours, the door was locked. Customers were in the place and nobody took the initiative to unlock the doors. When I went to the drive thru and said something about the doors being locked, the drive thru person didn't care.....and lately, the coffee is different....I love the peanut butter mocha and it doesn't taste how it used to.......
(2)Aly M.
I had gone year about a year ago. Thing is with me I love cheap 7/11 coffee. I can tell the coffee here is excellent quality. However I'm hoping they may get more drinks for non coffee/tea drinkers. Maybe smoothies? I know the title is "coffee planet" but if my friends what to go there and I want something different. The gentleman who helped me last time was so knowledgeable and went into detail about ingredients, I was impressed. The inside was well decorated and had plenty if seating. A little chilly but it was beginning of spring time.
(5)Danielle S.
I love coffee. I love local businesses. This place marries the two together. I have become a...well...coffee snob. If you are in that club as well, this is the place for you! Coffee Planet is located in the old Caribou spot, and they offer a variety of really different items that other places (both chain and local) do not. For instance, their cold brew coffee, or the pour overs. They even had a maple bacon latte. What?! They brew Metropolis coffee (local from Chicago), as well as sell Rishi teas (another awesome brand). I highly recommend Metropolis coffee! If you like local art, this is also a great place to showcase your own art, or take a peek at some others' work. There is a fireplace, and plenty of places to sit and chill. The owner was very helpful and definitely has passion behind what he does! Love deals? This place has a check in offer ($1 off a coffee), a punch card, and if you come Mon-Fri before 9AM, you get a free pastry with your coffee purchase! It is a little expensive (Starbucks prices), but the quality is much better. Also be aware that if you order a pour over, they do take a little longer, but it's worth it! Do if you're looking to try something new and support a local business, this is your place!
(5)Alicia W.
Best coffee shop in the area. Once you get over the slightly pretentious hipster vibe it's a cool place with delicious coffees. A step up from Starbucks for sure!
(5)Nikita S.
Starbox is too boxy, corporate, busy, and mediocre. In search of a new Sunday morning coffee place we stumbled upon this place - highly recommended by fellow yelpers! First impressions, clean, homey, with couches and tables and a fake fireplace, sure to transition you nicely from sleepy bed, to your new living room (with better coffee and pleasant ambiance). Don't worry people aren't wearing their pajamas here, but whose judging. Coffee comes in from staple Americanos and classic black, to pour overs, and Kyoto cold drips. It's got a bakery and some food options too. We thoroughly enjoyed our coffee and will definitely be back!
(5)R. S.
It's a bummer to say this but I can no longer recommend this place. The change in management has brought terrible service. The staff are inexperienced and spend more time socializing with loiterers than being prompt and providing accurate orders to customers. This past visit will be our last. :(
(2)David C.
Awesome coffee shop. Uses coffee from Metropolis, another coffee shop that I like from the city. Good atmosphere, friendly service, awesome wifi (unlike Starbucks and caribou) Tried their horchata latte. They have house horchata which is interesting mixed with a shot of expresso
(5)Jay N.
Driving by on Golf, I wasn't too impressed with the place based on the lighting, small space, and hand painted windows. It also closes at 9. But the Charbucks nearby has some of the most inconsistent levels of courtesy with their staff and clientele that we couldn't get work done there anymore. Inside, the decor is pretty nice. There's local artwork and photography on the walls and there is a great selection of coffee and espresso drinks. I always get coffee but I just had to get the maple bacon mocha latte. I asked for a small but it came in one of their larger mugs. It had good notes of maple and mocha but I couldn't really taste the bacon. The setup of the tables were nice and the windows let in plenty of sun despite the painting on the windows of their Metropolis Spice Island coffee. There were also books and games which made me and my friend come back next time. The pourover prices were a little high. $3.75 for a small while the Chemex were over $4. I was in San Francisco the week before and had Blue Bottle pourover for $2.75. They seemed pretty adept behind their La Marzocco so I will definitely be back for more coffee! I know it would be difficult to stay open later but I think that would help people come here for their 1st choice.
(4)Filepe R.
Super awesome atmosphere. When you think of local coffee shop, this is it. Had a Maple Bacon Mocha Latte, which was suggested, and it's fantastic. Just came in for a little coffee on the way to lunch and was blown away. Nice job Coffee Planet!
(5)Colleen B.
Great coffee and espresso drinks! I'll come here when I'm in town over Starbucks anyday! Only complaint is the family's behavior. Maybe I always catch them on a bad morning, but i frequently witness them arguing with each other right in front of the customers. Social and customer service skills could use improvement.
(3)Lissette M.
Today was my first time here and it's my new favorite coffee shop, I had the maple bacon coffee, it was definitely delicious . I will be back. They have this crazy coffee brewing on the side something out of breaking bad I had some it was a little strong for me but it was the best I have ever had.
(5)Jessica A.
This is a very staff friendly, quaint coffee shop that featured live music the night I attended with a few friends. I had oatmeal and flavored iced tea that was brewed there. They used real mugs and real silverware. This is not something you see in all coffee shops so I appreciated that. I will visit this place again. Perfect venue for a catch up with friends or a book club. Oh they also have free Wifi. =)
(4)Mark A.
Since moving to Madison, WI from the Chicago burbs, I've become spoiled with all the quality coffee options. Every time I'm back I struggle to find good coffee, often driving over 20 minutes to try new places. When I saw Coffee Planet had pour overs and used Metropolis Coffee from Chicago, I decided to get off the expressway and give it a go. Super friendly staff, excellent coffee, and a variety of options of roasts and methods of brewing... I will be back! We tried a Chemex and an iced coffee and both were great - Guatemalan espresso roast was delicious.
(5)Patty M.
Purchased the Metropolis Brand coffee bag for $18.99. They grind it for you at no extra cost. (my valentine gift to me). hee hee Ordered the Large Lavender Latte (house specialty). Altogether with tax $26 They have pastries, too. Nice place to chill with your laptop. Service was pleasant. and the place was clean,
(3)Tony P.
This place offers Delicious coffee/espresso/and teas that taste great and are not loaded with a bunch of sugar. For those of you that suffer from milk allergies fear not. This place offers soy and Almond milk. CAUTION: I still love coffee planet but be warned. If you are on lunch break or pressed for time there drive through service can be pokey. Like almost 15 min of waiting. With no cars in front of you.
(5)B R Hungry X.
Great coffee shop, brings some culture into its suburban neighborhood. It's an urban coffee joint in a suburban setting. Chemex slow drips, serves local coffee company Metropolis, sit and play games, hop on wifi, enjoy the different flavors, and support local artists. This is a true coffee joint, forget the chains, there's a drive-thru for those that need to drink and go! Good local bakery goods sold inside as well.
(4)Dave S.
First off I love to see local owned coffee shops. Starbucks coffee folks is not good coffee. Get out of your shell and try other places for once. I give this place 4 stars due to the following reasons: - the owner is constantly trying new things and to innovate. So you might see new things quite often, which makes this place interesting - They have an awesome 24 hour drip coffee maker that's crazy. The thing is about 5 feet tall, and the coffee out of this is excellent. Usually they like to serve it cold but can do an Americano with it. I've only tasted it cold and it's got a great kick without the acidity. (I'll post a picture of this) - They are going with a great bakery out in the suburbs for their pastries. SotTheir pasteries are awesome. The Biscotti is HUGE, and again from that bakery they use (not sure what the name is) and tastes great. - Coffee I'd say is at times avg but can be above average. For example today it was above average. I had this crazy Bacon Mocha. Sounds gross right? No, it's freakin awesome. You can't go wrong trying this one out. It's pretty well known that chocolate and bacon go together anyway. There are a lot of chocolate candy out there that is paired with bacon bits, etc. - The atmosphere is nice. He's made it clean, simple, yet modern. - Owner is great. You walk in and he's usually there and very enthusiastic and accommodating. That's how business should be. Screw Starfucks. That's not coffee people. You don't like quite how they did something he'll do everything in his power to make you happy and change it - He's using comcast for his high speed provider. So you're getting great wi-fi speeds in here...around 20 mbps. Down the road, if you try that huge Starbucks in the Streets of Woodfield, you might as well give up. You literally get a wopping .2 mbps. yes that's POINT 2. That's about as fast as a 56k modem. And it's been like that for years as I tried over and over again to try and work there with my laptop. I like the atmosphere there as in asethetics but it's too damn crowded and I can't and never have been able to use wi-fi because i'ts so damn slow..not worth your time to even try working there remotely from a laptop. Don't believe me? go there and try it. and run speedtest.net , you'll see why you can't even stream music to your damn laptop over there. Suggestions to Owner: - Tweak your espresso machine. Make the grind finer. The shots are not strong enough and I've drank a lot of coffee at many good shops. People want to taste a very rich and strong taste. I end up having to add an extra shot every time I come here so please look into tweaking the machine. - don't use the beans you are using. I'm --not-- a huge fan of Metropolis beans, never have been..they're bland to me. If you can change in the future please do. I recommend (no not Intelligensia) one of the best roasters I've tasted coffee from which is "I Have a Bean" roaster out of Wheaton, IL ihaveabean.com . It rocks. It compares so some of the best beans I've tasted in the US period. Get a contract with the owner. He's young, enthusiastic, nice, and has a lot of drive. I think this would be a great pairing - Get some of my favorite topping on the condiments table - Nutmeg - Can you get later hours such as being open till 12 on weekends (Fri-Sun)? It's hard to get over here when you have kids, you get here around 7 or 8 and this place is closing by 9. IMO coffee shops are the essence of culture and are places people want to go late to work, they love that aspect of a coffee shops. I hate when shops close early. Some close around 6pm, they're stupid. So try to keep this place open late as possible - Get some live bands in here. In California, a LOT of coffee shops do this and it is just great. I'm talking small. Single guitar players to 1-3 person bands that can fit in a coffee shop type of area. Get some jazz, other types of performers in the corner of the shop here (set up a very small stage in front of your espresso machine area).
(4)Jason R.
What a great place. The coffee selection is amazing, the taste is outstanding and the service is out of this world.
(5)David B.
Mixed bag. Friends love the choice and the quality but for what I order at Starbucks they are slow as hell and often times what they have on the menu they are out of. I was burned once by them (the only time I tried them) and not only did I not get what I want but it was expensive what I got and I was late for work. Sorry Coffee Planet, not again.
(1)Karolina P.
Great coffee, great staff, and great place to sit down and enjoy a cup! Prices are reasonable and I love the fact that there is no other place like it near by! I choose this over the place down the street ;)
(5)Kathy H.
A really great cup of coffee. everyone should try it at least once you ll be hooked . great friendly knowledable service . check it out ;)
(5)George G.
Let me just say that this is NOT Starbucks!! The people in this coffee house have talent for making coffee. This is a very good coffee house and it is easily apparent that they know what they are doing. Not over roasted or bitter, and they are very friendly inside. They stir the coffee- which is something Starbucks has seemed they have forgotten to do. Pleasantly surprised by this place and will make it a regular stop when I am in town.
(5)CL M.
Great chai tea lattes (just the right amount of spice and not too sweet), great mochas (no bitter beans here)! Love the almond crescents...absolutely yummy (moist center, great flavor). The nut brownie has nice frosting but could be a bit more moist in the center. The drive-thru is convenient; the staff always very friendly. Highly recommend you check this place out!
(5)Alicia P.
Good quality coffee, nice relaxed environment, and super nice staff that really care about doing a good job and providing good customer service!
(5)Julie S.
I love this place!!!! the owner was so nice and he explained every single items in his shop so I can pick what I really want. I tried Almond Joy Latte today and I'm in love!!!! You can also enjoy some art work on the wall. If you like it, you can purchase it ^^
(5)John V.
Their green tea lattes are delicious. I feel they need to work on their sizes though. Their regular size coffee is unreasonably small in my opinion. I really like the ambiance and their drive-thru is a nice touch. Definitely enjoy benefiting a family owned business over places like Starbucks.
(5)D H.
If you want real coffee, this is the place to go. While there are many awesome coffee shops in the city, this is one of the FEW places that serve REAL coffee. Their beans are Metropolis beans, local and an exceptional roaster. Their coffee is not over roasted or burnt, but you can actually taste the different flavors and differences of each cup of coffee. They also have an awesome Green Tea Latte (made with real matcha!) They also have an awesome Kyoto Cold Brewing tower and have multiple ways of brewing coffee. Definitely, a place to go to, if you want real quality coffee.
(5)Amanda R.
Well, the construction on Golf is done so I ventured over to give Coffee Planet another chance now that they're more established. The place is coming along great and feels like a good place to hang out with friends. The staff at the register still don't seem to be very well trained, but the coffee was MUCH better. They've got lots of specialty drinks, and I just had to try their Girls Scout Mocha. It was really good... very smooth and delicious. I will be back, maybe for a game or two :)
(4)Tommy B.
Some of the best coffee I've had. There is a great variety of drinks to satisfy pretty much anything you could desire. Good coffee isn't enough to get 5 stars though. Their staff is knowledgable, friendly and above all else, modest. They are more than happy to explain the differences and subtle similarities between different types of coffees and the methods used to produce it. If you're in the area and looking for a place to get coffee, stop looking and go here.
(5)Dan T.
Finally. There's nothing wrong with Starbucks or similar chains, I love them all. Sometimes you really need a well-done and correctly pulled shot. Finally! Coffee Planet has real, semi-auto espresso machines. They serve Metropolis, which is locally roasted and better (gasp!) than Intelligentsia. The employees are unpretentious, so feel free to ask questions. I've been here a half-dozen times and have had an occasion where the coffee wasn't particularly great, although it's been much more consistent as of late. Yes, it's 50 cents more than Starbucks, but Ribeye is more expensive than utility-grade beef. Treat yourself and support a local business!
(4)Dave S.
I was recently asked by one of the baristas if I "wanted a Starbucks macchiato or a real macchiato..." (um, you had me at real)... and from there, I knew I was at the right spot. Feels great.
(4)Dave W.
Thank God for a real coffee house in the area. Went to Coffee Planet for the first time today. The quality of my latte was outstanding. Plus it has a unique atmosphere.
(5)Zach S.
Great Metropolis coffee, with multiple pour over options. Nice place. Second time here and will definitely be coming back. The barista even brought my mug of coffee to me! That never happens at Starbucks. You need to try this place!!
(5)Jeff H.
Support a Family Business! All I'm Saying is Give Coffee Planet a Chance! Variety, Conscientious Service and Good Atmosphere. There's a winning foundation here! You know these people couldn't have picked a worst time to open a new business let alone a coffee shop. Between that construction mess, the economy and the rising cost of everything..especially coffee, it's hard for a small biz to make it. Starbuck Troopers needs some local competition. So far, I've been bye here 4 times and enjoyed the experience. Sure they are learning the ropes and they admit it but they will change your drink and remake if it doesn't seem right to you. On my second run Rick remembered me over the course of a 3 week absence, that says a lot about character. I usually do the Raspberry Mocha but this time around tried the Peanut Butter Mocha. The Bacon Mocha was just too much of a reach. The coffee was pretty well balanced , a little on the gritty side but that may have been the nature of the peanut butter flavor. It was pretty good. The previous Raz Mochas were good as well with only one being remade. I hope ya'll make this a place on the drink agenda, work with them. To the owner's...please push your corporate bulk sales if possible to local companies as a service. Hopefully this will bolster your profits...ya just can't rely on OTC sales alone...especially in this maket Back on Thursday...Good Luck
(4)JOLENE M.
Great experience they have a ton of different blends and suggestions. All the staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Would make this my daily coffee stop if I didn't live an hour and a half away!
(4)Kyle G.
Awesome spot! Since moving to the Suburbs from downtown, I've been looking for a quality coffee shop that does things the right way (pour-over, meticulous crafting of coffee) when it comes to coffee. I've finally found it. Went in to try it out tonight and had a great conversation with 2 baristas, Jim and Hannah - both were really friendly and knew what they were talking about... great conversation. The Kenyan coffee was great (try the chemex, it's my favourite) and they've got a bunch of Metropolis choices - I'm sure you can't go wrong with any. I'll definitely be back and am so glad that I don't have to go all the way downtown to enjoy quality coffee when I'm not at home.
(4)patty t.
I dig this joint. I will be back. I ordered a large drip coffee and it came in a big ol' mug and was pleasantly strong. The lemon poppyseed muffin was delish, too. Coffee and a muffin came out to be abt 5 bucks...swell prices in my book. There's plenty of tables, cushy chairs, and outlets. Music was on, but wasn't so loud that it was intrusive while you were working. While I was there (Thurs. evening 6:30-8:30), the wi-fi was fine. Connecting was easy and it was fast. Dude who manned the counter owned the joint and he was super nice. Looks like I found a good spot to get some writing done.
(4)Megan N.
I couldn't be happier with this coffee shop. It's the distinct flavor and the friendly atmosphere that keep you coming back.
(4)Sourma K.
I love to support local business and coffee planet is one of those places. It's also great that they brew a local coffee roaster, metropolis coffee. The ambiance is funky yet relaxing with free wifi and friendly service. I did recommend they carry different breakfast sandwiches like the ones at Panera Bread (which are amazing) and Mariano's (which are even more amazing). I don't think we have enough of that in this area. Especially for those (like myself) who always forget to bring something from home for breakfast and a quick "sammich" would be great. Today was my first trip the shop and I look forward to going back. Support Local Business!
(4)Josh H.
Friendly knowledgable family owned shop that serves Metropolis coffee . . Win :) Didn't get the fifth star cause shot was pulled slightly off. Still great though but not as good as Metropolis in the city. Please go to this coffee shop. We need to support these coffee shops that have the right people, the right coffee, and the right machines :)
(4)Mana I.
First time here so I have no idea what it was like before the management changed. I'm sitting here in this awesome shop right now as I type this. First, the service is great. Both the woman at the counter and the guy on the espresso bar are friendly and helpful. They're doing a great job with some difficult customers too. It's impressive to watch. Very welcoming vibe. Second, I like the coffee. I'm sipping on a freshly brewed 12 ounce regular cup o' joe and it's delicious. Third, I see a sign that says they're now open until midnight. Nice! Thumbs up for indie coffee shops and this place is doing it right imho. Only downside: no outside seating on this lovely day.
(5)Moeed K.
Not sure what to think. Coffee is okay, and the cafe just doesn't feel cozy enough. I like the old setting with the couches. I'm also disappointed in the smaller latte menu. I came here to work, but it seems like that was a mistake. The music is too loud, and it's too hot. I probably will not be back.
(2)Rosa J.
I stopped here because I was out and about in the suburb. I yelped this place since hubby was on the way to an install in Algonquin. I read a couple of Yelp reviews about this place and knew that they recently had a management change. Well, they seemed to make a right decision to keep on using Metropolis Coffee. I'm not used to see a coffee shop so spacious! I've not been out in Chicagoland for quite some time so I may be just slightly delusional. We didn't have time to stay around. Coffee was decent. They had a few specialty drinks, but I just wanted a cup of medium coffee with cream and no sugar. They closed the drive-thru and used the area as an outdoor patio. They tables and chairs were cute. At least the existence of "The Mug," or "Coffee Planet" from the old management allows me to patronize the local business.
(3)A. L. P.
Tried this place when they were still brushing off the dust from first opening their doors. I had a coffee that was great and my friend had an espresso. He wasn't impressed with the espresso, and claimed it wasn't good and tasted of burnt vegetables. I'm willing to try something else but will stick with our usually coffee spot in Schaumburg.
(3)Jessica S.
Great coffee, super friendly and knowledgable baristas who clearly enjoy selling their product. Was staying at hotel down the street and visited each day we were in town. Highly recommend if in the area looking for coffee.
(5)Krunal P.
I've been here only once but impressed with it. They have wide variety of drinks and coffee is amazing. Its cozy and comfortable to sit for few minutes or hours. Cold brew coffee is my favorite and staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I like supporting local businesses so I will keep coming here every time in in the area.
(4)Steve L.
The owner, Rich, has a passion for what he does. This is my first visit here, and while I was waiting for my delicious pumpkin latte, I witnessed him showing off his teas to the women who came after me. He almost gleefully arranged them so he'd love each one more than the next. I was out with friends earlier at Kampai, and we went on Yelp to look for a place that wasn't Starbucks. Thanks Yelp, for this new find!
(5)Jeff G.
Hard to beat this place for a serious cup of coffee. I went with a guy I bike with and wow... they really know what they are doing. A variety of brew methods and coffees that will keep me coming back.
(5)M G.
Gem of a place--great coffee and atmosphere. Coffee planet uses Metropolis coffee, probably one of the few ones in the suburbs! Either way, slow drip/ drip/cold press coffees are offered here and all of them tastes great. One of the few coffee places in the burbs where the staff constantly cleans the table (clean restrooms too). Owner is there all the time, and happy to see that a local business thrives in the area. A lot regular customers I see every visit. Btw, if you have LoyalTree app you can apply it to every purchase. Only con I can think off is that sometimes bakery goods can be fresher, but hey, you can't expect fresh baked goods at 3pm in the afternoon, right?
(5)Peter R.
I *love* this place. It has good coffee, FAST wifi, a laid-back atmosphere, and a drive-thru. It's also open until 9PM all week, even on Sundays. I had no problem digging in to a good book here, and there are plenty of power outlets for plugging in your laptop. If you're out and about running errands or shopping in the Schaumburg area, this neighborhood gem is worth a quick 5-minute detour to the east. Skip the major chains and give these guys a try--it's well worth it.
(5)Jack F.
The best tea I've ever had. Chai Tea is fantastic. Love the interior of this place, as well.
(5)Akira S.
Great ice coffee, actually the best I ever tried, it is made from real grounded coffee beans not some powder as StarBucks serve. It is one place own business with live guitar music and if you are the artist you can post your art there on the wall. And coffee is cheaper than other places.

The staff were quick and friendly. The dark roast was fresh. The ambiance was relaxed. The menu had a variety of unique coffees and teas. I hardly knew where to begin!

I really really wanted to like their coffee but when Starbucks was closed for renovation I stopped there instead. Drive up was very convenient. Ordered a regular coffee with hazelnut and cream. My normal order at Starbucks but Ugh. Coffee was very bitter and I ended up dumping it. Not very impressed. I give them props for setting up shop to compete with Starbucks but unfortunately it didn't convert me.

I stopped in to get a cappuccino because I read that Coffee Planet is a true coffee/espresso shop located in the suburbs. I was a little upset when asked what size cappuccino I wanted expecting to get served something in the 6-ish oz. range. When noticing that I was upset by the offered sizes, they offered to make me a "real" one off the menu. Needless to say, I got really excited and enjoyed the almond milk capp. They serve Metropolis beans and offer a rewards program which is nice as their prices are rivaling city coffee prices.

First of all, I don't throw 5 stars around lightly. I live for great coffee. Coffee Planet is a place where I can live. This quality shop offers a wide selection of Metropolis Coffee, one of Chicagoland's finest roasters. The employees and owners are genuine and fully engaged in delivering supreme quality consistently. They offer pour over coffee on the Hario V60 AND the Chemex. I don't care if it's winter and 5 degrees outside, their cold brew coffee is a revelation. Forget the archaic over roasted mega chains. Weep not for Caribou. Support your local independent Coffee Planet and realize that coffee is not merely meant to be consumed... It is meant to be experienced.

I went in expecting just another Starbucks but came out with a flavor I never thought was possible for a coffee. Coffee Planet has an amazing variety of coffees to choose from and I was astounded. I ordered an almond joy coffee and was a little skeptical at first, thinking it might not taste anything like almond joy. I walked out, took my first sip, and found myself completely taken aback, the coffee tasted so close to the actual candy bar. I will definitely be going back. The employees were also very kind. :)

The reviewers here probably don't understand the concept here. This is not a Starbucks or a dunkin donuts. The beans they are using are locally roasted and in my opinion some of the best you can get in this part of tue country. The machine is semi manual, this means that almost everything is up to the barista. Sometimes its a win and sometimes not. Unlike most places, it takes time to master the flavour. You grow writg the place. To compare these places to Starbucks is lije comparing a cheese burger from McDonald's to the ones in Gibson's. My coffee was great btw.

I can drink coffee all day because I love it. More than that - on tired mornings, I NEED it. I think I've been a coffee drinker for almost 20 some years, and I was never really picky. As long as it was a dark dark roast with simple sweetener and a dash of skim, I was happy. I would usually frequent Starbucks and Caribous. And now there are no more Caribous, including the one I frequented most. But then came Coffee Planet in its place. it's been around for a while now and I drive past it almost daily on the way to work, and I don't know why - I never stopped in until recently. There's a Starbuck's a couple blocks down and I would just automatically go there. But then, last month, on a Polar Vortex weekend day, everything changed. We wanted to get some coffee, but all of a sudden my usuals at Starbuck's weren't going to cut it. I wanted something different. So in we went to Coffee Planet. And oh boy - we've never looked back. Maple Bacon Latte...say what?!? On the first trip, I went simple - dark roast with my skim, vanilla syrup and equal. It was grand. Metropolis Spice Island brew and it was rich and smooth, no bitterness or acidity that I sometimes find in other dark roasts. Perfect for a below negative one hundred degree day. Since then - we've been back a couple times a week. Price wise it fits into my weekly coffee budget...about comparable to Sbux/Caribou. And since then, I think I've tried most of the specialty drinks including my fave Macon Bacon Latte, which is pure awesomeness - reminds me of bacon on vanilla ice cream with a caramel drizzle. My husband tried the Insane-O this day - which required a lesson as well...he was warned that it would keep him energized, and sure enough - it kept him as wired as he needed to be! Here's a list of what else is awesome about Coffee Planet: 1) The Staff. Each and every time we've been here they have been outstanding, even at 6am on a post-snowstorm week day morning. They take their time and talk with you, always cheerful and always helpful. We've been asking lots of questions about the coffees, brews, etc. and they're open and helpful. 2) Despite being a long-time coffee lover/drinker...I'm no connoisseur and I've often wondered what the difference is between different types of drinks. What's the difference between a latte and cappuccino? Well, Coffee Planet lays it all out for you on a very descriptive menu board...and if you still have questions - just ask. They'll be more than happy to school you. 3) It's a local business that supports its neighborhood. Take a look at the artwork and photography displayed on the walls. Organize a meet-up here...stop by for music on certain evenings. Come by with friends to play board games or mah-jong while enjoying the coffee...it's a great local hang-out. 4) Pour-overs. So I just recently discovered the art of the pour-over and they do this craft right here. 5) Rewards program - part of the reason I usually frequent sbux is because I feel compelled to keep up my gold level status (and/or eventually move up). Coffee Planet also has a rewards program. One that we were already able to take advantage of in the first month we've become frequent customers! Punch card - 10 drinks and get one free. Who doesn't love freebies? So...my only despair is that it's not as close or in abundance as the other Starbucks in our area, but it's on the way to work and even it if wasn't, it's worth the drive. I love this place, I really do. And looking forward to becoming a regular. BTW - check in on your Yelp app when you visit - they offer check-in deals/coupons.

Decided to get some coffee with my girlfriend, she wanted to stop by the Starbucks which is in the same plaza but instead I mentioned we should try this new place. Girlfriend ordered an iced coffee, after which there was some confusion between the alright younger employee and the older owner (?), when the younger employee asked him if he hadn't brewed any iced coffee today. The older guy goes, "No! It's cold!" It was over 50 degrees that day, but irregardless they kind of made us feel stupid for ordering an iced coffee. It's not what you may want, it's what your customers want and you should provide product to fit everyone's tastes. Based on the personality of this guy, I kind of got a distaste for Coffee Planet. The place also seems a bit lacking in personality and style. When we went there was no music playing either. Granted the coffee was good, they brew good quality beans, so for a to go option it seems more plausible for me. Still I preferred Caribou, at least they had iced coffee despite the weather.

Decided to give this place a try on my way to Woodfield a while back. While the staff and service is 5 stars, the coffee fell way short for me. I only had metropolis in a cold drink so thought I'd give it a fair chance in a hot drink. My opinion still the same...just don't like it. Tossed most of my cappuccino in the trash on my way in to Woodfield (no need to be sad, other than wasting my money I walked right in to a new place at the mall and fell in love so there is a happy ending to this story). Now to be fair, I don't hide my coffee under blankets of flavor, perhaps I'd have found it more pleasing if I did. Would've liked to love this place as the inside is cozy and inviting but just can't say I'd go back, and that's just my personal tastes...I know we all have different preferences and that's what makes the world go round.

As a fan of latte drinks, they probably make the worst lattes. They don't care about the proportion of the milk, coffee, syrup, and ice. They just put whatever much of milk, syrup, and coffee. Their vanilla coffee tastes like just bitter milk that costs $5. I come here to study not to enjoy coffee.

I am sitting in your establishment at this moment. This is my second time here in 8 days. The first time I ordered an iced green tea and received a hot orange tea. Because the fire looked so inviting and the tea was good, I didn't say a word. I decided to return today. When I walked in it took three tries to order their signature drink the coconut mocha. After a rather lengthy wait I did receive my drink and proceeded to sit. Today there is no music and no fire. Pretty drab. The worst part of my visit? An older gentleman who was yelling at the young male barista. To which he replied , "Shut up, " and said, "F&**," more than once. The older gentleman talked to the employees like trash. I will not come back here. Which is sad, because the place is actually quite inviting (decor wise) and I would have loved for it to have become my regular coffee shop. I'll be across the street at Starbucks. Right now the older man is loudly saying, "I am NOT coming back. This is you guy's problem. This is insane." The only thing insane is your attitude. Forget this joint and move on folks.

I am so happy I found a coffee shop in the NW suburbs! Generally, I have to go to the Lakeview neighborhood to find coffee like this. The owners are great. Coffee for me was perfect. They pull so many shots into a capaccino I can't remember the ratio but you get to choose of course. My Mexican Mocha was great. Barrista made; not automated. They have specials everyday that look great. Metropolis coffee is excellent. They also have pour-overs which are as fresh as you can get for coffee. Wifi. Fireplace. Lots of windows; plenty of comfortable spots to sit and work online and if your batterry dies, no problem; they have outlets at every table and chair! Job seeker? Take your laptop and get out of the house and have some coffee while you seek. They also have drive through if you don't want to go inside. Do not hesitate to go to Coffee Planet. I'll try to post a pic of my capaccino next time I go.

You can actually taste the espresso in the cappuccino, AND the espresso doesn't taste like burnt coffee! I don't know why anyone would still go to Starbucks with this place in the neighborhood.

First visit, went through the drive through and although there was a bit of a wait, the coffee was nice and smooth and not burnt! Will definitely be back to sit inside and get some work done. 4.50 for a med caramel latte

I got the caramel blended ice coffee, it was delicious! Such a yummy creamy treat! My first time there, the owner was very friendly, and after going there 2 more times, the owner remembered me and still gave me the same great, friendly service! Definitely my favorite spot to get coffee now, also they a have drive thru, for those who are on the go!

Made my first visit here this past Sunday. I've passed by this place daily since I changed my route on my way home down Golf Road and have been dying to make it inside. I finally talked my boyfriend into going to check it out and we absolutely loved it! First impressions are wonderful, and we absolutely got a hilarious one! A little finch had made it's way inside of the coffee shop and was hopping around inside of the place. I had an iced chai with almond milk, did I mention they actually have almond milk?! It was very tasty and more on the cinnamon side vs the milk side like Starbucks. My boyfriend had a cafe au lait and some ice cream/espresso concoction. We both enjoyed our drinks and the courteousness of the staff. The owner I believe is named Rich or Richard? He personally helped us and thanked us for coming which was great! Unfortunately the place was packed and every seat was taken so we didn't get to enjoy the atmosphere, we did get to sit outside in some very comfy chairs and enjoy the nice weather while enjoying our coffees! Definitely coming back!

Everyone who is raving about this coffee shop obviously hasn't had the displeasure of interacting with the owner (Rick?) Seriously....beware! I have no problem with the product/environment. Drinks I would give about a 3.5-4 Customer service from the baristas--hands down a 5, they are all lovely and wonderful people, drinks are great, and they are knowledgeable about what they're serving. Atmosphere I'd give an overall 4, cozy, bright, etc. And then there is the owner. If I could give negative stars I would. Today I witnessed the most unprofessional temper tantrum by a business owner I have ever seen. I was sitting with a friend, enjoying coffee when two business-like men sat at one of the tables. They were barely there for a minute when Rick came up to them and went on a TIRADE about how he wasn't Starbucks and they couldn't have a meeting there, and he's the owner of a SMALL BUSINESS which he kept repeating over and over. All because one man had a water bottle from Starbucks. Then he kept bragging about how he has the best product in Chicago and how infuriating it is that anyone would go to Starbucks at all. Both men looked stunned (as did the other handful of patrons in the restaurant), one said they were just getting settled in and hadn't had a chance to make their purchase yet. Rick ranted a little more until they both bought something; I'm amazed that they didn't just get up and leave. What made the whole thing more ridiculous was that the shop was practically empty. Way to alienate the few customers you do have. I could have maybe given Rick the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was having a bad day? But I can't because I've seen him berate a staff members as I waited for my drink to be prepared on multiple occasions in the past. The customer service here is great...when Rick isn't on shift.

Amazing coffee! Great staff! Try the blended drinks or the pour over bar- I would pick this place over Starbucks any day. Way better quality coffee here.

I have been here on a few occasions. Every time it gets better and better. They always have the latest and greatest things to try.Not only do they treat you like a human being(unlike the corporate coffee places, no names mentioned, STARBUCKS!) but they take the time out to offer suggestions, try something if your unsure of how it will taste, but just over all an amazing coffee experience. I travel for a living and every time I'm within a 30 mile radius my main concern is will I make it over to coffee planet before they close. You really need to try the brazil capim branco pour over! (caramel, graham crackers, brown sugar) Seriously! it doesn't get better than that. They have something for everyone. If you want to have amazing coffee,(and tea for that matter) you really need to try this place out.

AWESOME COFFEE SHOP!!! I stopped in to check this place out and was so impressed! My husband and I actually own a coffee shop in the north shore area (formerly a Caribou also) so I wanted to stop in with our manager just to see what Coffee Planet had done with the place. From the moment we walked in, we were all smiles. The place is huge but they some how managed to make it feel cozy. Whether you're a mom who wants to go with other moms and kids (they have stuff or kids to do) to have a beverage or pastry, a student who wants to study, or a business person who wants to have a meeting....this place works! The Mexican hot chocolate was amazing and the scones were delicious! We ended up staying for a while and trying a few things. All was so good! The owner was so nice and the baristas could not have been nicer! If you're in the neighborhood, stop in...you will not be disappointed. I wish them all the best! Owning an independent coffee place myself, you count on your customers to come back and word of mouth. Looking forward to stopping by again! Shopping is just around the corner!

Update: The staff is super nice. I've seen about three different girls working here they are all super sweet and chill. The coffee is fairly priced...and I love the cups and sleves they come in...!! Overall, you are running a great shop. Keep it up. I will be back with friends!!
(5)John M.
This place is amazing! I really enjoy the atmosphere here, a great place to study/work or to hang with friends. Also, the lattes are great. The baristas are skilled and make the drinks really well every time. Try the Maple Bacon Mocha...sounds weird but its out of this world!

I'm giving the 3 stars for their customer service. They were very friendly when I asked questions about their pour-over service. White choc mocha with soy was bland at best unless they forgot to put the white chocolate in. I also want to like this place, the furniture and tables etc. look great and inviting and like I said the staff looks willing to help. Also they have a drive-thru. I'll give them another try or two but I hope the drinks improve.
